Four modern jazz artists coming together to weave their stories, intertwine their art and push forward in new directions. The Spin Quartet is a vehicle for saxophonist Geof Bradfield, trumpeter Chad McCullough, bassist Clark Sommers, and drummer Kobie Watkins to seamlessly blend their work as composers and instrumentalists of the highest caliber.
All four are frequently called upon by some of the most revered names in the music (Sonny Rollins, Kurt Elling, Wayne Horvitz to name just a few), solidifying their place not just as side-men but as contributing artists, working together to shape and define the music.
This is music with purpose, sound with intent. Forward-looking melodic sensibility steeped in tradition. The in-the-moment dialog keeps listeners on their toes, caught up in the group’s discourse. A large part of that rapport stems from the members working together in a variety of contexts over the last decade in various circles, coming together in late 2011 to form the quartet.
Since then, the group had toured sporadically for several years, playing festivals and concerts throughout the US. The band’s summer 2013 dates culminated in a studio album, In Circles which was heralded by critics as “one of the top chordless albums of the year.” The latest album, is Starting from Zero, which captures the band at a creative peak in a live setting. Stay tuned…
